NASHO - ‘The amplified voice for the Social Housing Sector’ - was formed at an inaugural congress held in May 2002 and formally launched by the then National Housing Minister.

NASHO is a membership-based federation of 16 social housing institutions with one affiliated member, collectively owning and/or managing 23044 units and operating throughout the country. Affiliated/member institutions are all non-profit institutions operating within the rental and co operative tenure options for low to middle income families.

The National Association of Social Housing Organisations serves its members with advocacy, information, and training. NASHO has members and associate members in all parts of South Africa. Maintaining strong links between NASHO and its members is a priority for the federation, in order to reduce the isolation of individual members and to ensure that services and information are widely available.
