Over 95 years old, Communicare is a leading social and affordable housing provider in Cape Town. Communicare’s mission is “to provide affordable housing sustainably in Cape Town for people of relatively low regular incomes with opportunities for their economic upliftment.”

Communicare breaks the typical mold for both business and non-profits by using a social enterprise business model. Our social enterprise business model enables us to provide social rentals while also growing sustainably.

We combine the state’s capital grants and subsidies with surpluses from our commercially viable property activities to finance the development of new social rentals, making them financially feasible and sustainable. 

Communicare owns and manages a growing diversified portfolio. This includes 3000 apartments that are rented to tenants in either the social or affordable housing markets, and also a commercial portfolio in the retail/value park sector.
