Yeast City Housing is a non profit company established by the Tshwane Leadership Foundation and its eight partner churches. Our mandate is to ensure decent, affordable housing, and to contribute to urban regeneration and social inclusion through well managed social housing.
We presently have 533 units under management in 12 projects. Initially we started with the provision of rooms with shared bathrooms and kitchens. These were specially for people on very low incomes and often with special needs for social support. We are now focusing on a greater mix of communal and self contained units for rental, at present to the subsidised market.

A good example of our approach is Tau Village launched in 2010 by the Minister of Human Settlements. It is close to the centre of Tshwane and provides 110 units of accommodation – 82 self contained (mainly) bachelor units, a drop-in centre and 20 bed only accommodation for a girls at risk project, and eight units for an elderly persons scheme.

All are close to shops, schools and other social amenities. But this is not all, we work closely with the other parts of the Tshwane Leadership Foundation to help our tenants to develop their social and economic opportunities.
