The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) officially launched its Social Housing Portal, marking a significant milestone for social housing in South Africa. This innovative portal, the first of its kind in the country, offers detailed, open-access information on social housing projects nationwide through interactive maps and graphs. The portal aims to provide the public with enhanced opportunities to understand and analyze the progress of social housing initiatives and hopes to generate new insights that will improve policy and practice in this sector.

The development of this portal is the result of extensive collaboration among professionals with deep expertise in social and affordable housing. Key contributors include researchers and practitioners from the HSRC, the University of the Free State (UFS), the Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA), the National Association of Social Housing Organisations (NASHO), the Development Action Group (DAG), and Ndifuna Ukwazi (NU). NASHO is proud to have been part of this collaborative effort and believes the portal will be an invaluable tool for advancing social housing in South Africa.
